CLOE: a professional test in European languages

To assess the level of German, Spanish, French as a foreign language, Italian, or Portuguese, BTL recommends the CLOE test. This certification of oral and written language skills assesses the professional language used in the office.

If you'd like to test your command of the language of a particular professional field, CLOE allows you to select this specialization when you register. Various fields are offered, including: aeronautics, accounting, law, environment, finance, marketing, etc.

CLOE consists of an online written test under remote supervision, followed by an online appointment to assess oral skills.

CLOE highlights

Choosing CLOE means choosing :

360° assessmentof written and oral comprehension and expression,
thanks to a test that adapts to the candidate's level and enables specialization,
easy to organize: the CLOE is taken remotely on a computer at a time chosen by the candidate,
whose detailed certificate is emailed directly to the learner within 3 working days of the oral test.

What is the content of the CLOE test? How long does it take?

The written test lasts an average of 50 minutes, depending on the candidate's level and content.

Skills evaluated :

Use of language: vocabulary, grammar, expressions
Reading comprehension: reading a short text and answering questions
Listening comprehension: listen to recordings and answer questions

CLOE includes MCQs, fill-in-the-blank sentences, propositional fill-in-the-blank sentences, word and sentence order exercises and word banks.

Then, the appointment to assess the oral level lasts 15 to 20 minutes:

Introductory questions: 3-5 min
Case study scenarios: 4-6 minutes
A discussion around a theme: 4-6 minutes

How is the CLOE test organized with BTL?

The test takes place remotely in two stages. First, the candidate takes a supervised written test online. This part is taken at a time convenient to the candidate, within 30 days of the test date assigned by BTL at the end of the course.

At the end of the written test, the CLOE platform offers an individual webcam appointment for the oral assessment. It is possible to postpone the appointment with 24 hours' notice before the oral.
